Milt:
50s. He’s a professional mediator used to the rough and tumble of NYC labor negotiations, but he’s on his summer vacation now just looking to fish and for some peace and quiet. Milt radiates a wise, balanced manliness.
Sunny:
50s, Milt’s wife, a strong-willed handsome woman who expects it to be done her way. She’s a well-educated, socially responsible mother of two, quick to anger, slow to forgive. Beneath the tough skin beats a loyal and passionate heart.
Jeanette:
50s, Sunny’s gravel-voiced friend and politically involved neighbor. She has her sticky fingers in every available social pie.
Andy:
20s, a recent college graduate who projects a slacker image while working hard to find his place in the world. He has strong anti-establishment attitudes but is discovering a new, expanding capacity for love.
Kitty:
20s, Andy’s good-looking girlfriend. She has an intelligent self-awareness coupled with a sturdy inner resolve. Her offbeat, on-my-own attitude covers a vulnerable young woman.

Nina:
CAST. 30ish. She’s an attractive, hard-driving advertising copywriter about to have a big wedding. She makes a family-rattling decision to become a woman first, and a daughter second.

Noel:
late 40s-early 50s. He is smart, quiet, and melancholic but has not lost his charisma nor his good looks. Upper Middle Class, suburban. Tidy and conservative. Has a dry wit and can effortlessly speak with great poeticism. Not so much dissatisfied with his marriage as passive in it.
Anne:
His wife, late 40s-early 50s. She also remains attractive and has a strong sense of humor, though hers is less dry and can be provocative. Restless, drifting towards neurotic. Her desire to revive the marriage is more palpable than Noel's.
Claudia:
early 20s. Smart, but not necessarily book-smart. She's volatile and somewhat unrefined, and her flashes of intellect are jarring. Grew up in foster homes. A natural sex appeal. Language skills and smart comic timing are vital, as she drives much of the play's action.
Tobin:
Cool. Sexy. Pot-smoker. Somewhat adrift and ineffectual, but means well. Not dumb, but not Claudia's equal intellectually.
