Rosalind:

Daughter of the exiled Duke Senior, she flees the Court disguised as a youth named Ganymede, and enters the Forest of Arden. She is adventurous, brave, spontaneous, and witty. A high-born young woman who resolutely and convincingly transforms herself into a young man who dwells in the forest. She is deeply in love with Orlando. The role requires an actress of tremendous charisma and star quality, combined with strong classical training and a thorough understanding of Shakespearean text. Age 25-35, Tall, slim, attractive, athletic, with a distinctive voice and an exciting physical presence.

Celia:

Cousin and best friend to Rosalind. She is the daughter of the usurping Duke Frederick. Spunky, verbally dexterous, high-born, mischievous, emotional, and fiercely loyal. She escapes with her cousin to the Forest of Arden, masquerading as a shepherdess, Aliena. The role requires an actress with strong classical training, the charm of a soubrette, and the ability to stand toe-to-toe with a powerful Rosalind. Age: 25-35, petite, pretty, with a distinctive voice and a true understanding of Shakespearean text.

Orlando:

The youngest of three well-born sons, he is raised by his eldest brother in reduced circumstances. He is ambitious, proud, honest, loyal, impetuous, and romantic. He falls instantly and deeply in love with Rosalind, at first sight. The role requires an actor with strong classical training and a beautiful speaking voice. The actor must be athletic, with a good physique, and the ability to perform a complicated onstage wrestling match. Must be attractive, with a palpable sexuality that makes the ladies swoon, and admire him. Age: 25-35
