Seeking (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified):

Note: All actors must have excellent British accents.

Septimus:

Early - mid 20s. Thomasina’s tutor. Incredibly smart and confident. Has a way with women.

Thomasina:

16. Precocious young genius. Inquisitive and insatiably curious. Not afraid to express her own opinion.

Lady Croom:

Mid – late 30s. Thomasina’s mother, who rules the old-world estate with an iron fist. Beautiful, sexual, strong, she engages in much flirtation with Septimus and the other gentlemen in the house.

Valentine Coverly:

Mid 20s. Post-graduate student in Mathematical Biology. Has a genuine intellectual passion. A bit internal. Chloe’s older brother.

Chloe Coverly:

18. Uncomplicated, smart, straightforward sassy teenager.

Chater:

30s-40s. Unsuccessful poet. Repeatedly cuckolded by his wife’s multiple trysts with guests in the house. So driven by his vision of himself as a great poet that he completely fails to notice anything else.

Brice:

40s-50s. Lady Croom’s brother. A sea captain, largely through patronage rather than any conspicuous talent. Falls in love with Chater’s wife.

Jellaby:

60s+. The Crooms’ butler. Chiefly spreads gossip and delivers letters. Has an uncanny ability to have noticed absolutely everything, observed usually without comment in the tradition of a master butler.

Noakes:

40s-50s. Landscape architect. Something bucolic and bumbling about him. A self-appointed design prophet, though in reality his “vision” is likely appalling.

Gus / Augustus:

16. Two roles for one actor. Gus: Valentine and Chloe’s younger brother. Has been mute from age 5. Augustus:Thomasina’s trouble-making younger brother. Actor spans the gap between past and present.

Hannah Jarvis Understudy:

Role of Hannah is CAST. Seeking Understudy only. Hanna is in her 30s. Author. Intelligent and confident, she has a competitive streak in her. Values academic knowledge over romance.

Bernard Nightingale Understudy:

Role of Bernard is CAST. Seeking Understudy only. Bernard is in his late 30s. Professor at Sussex. Extremely literary and a bit pompous, he tends to value literature and fame over scientific research.
