Ella:
(Female 50s – 60s) American, white, female. A rheumatoid, bedridden woman. She is deformed and wooden, her fingers trapped in claws. Prematurely aged.
Agnes:
(Female 30s) Black, Liberian immigrant. Ella’s home care worker. Tough and funny.
Roza:
(Female 40s) Bulgarian immigrant. Ella’s home care worker. Silent except when addressing birds. Ideally seeking an actress who speaks Bulgarian.
Busker:
(Male 30s) Subway platform musician, Also plays all other voices/voiceovers in the play. Moves freely through time and space. Seeking an actor who plays a musical instrument.
Happy:
(Male 20s) From India, recently immigrated to the U.S. Con artist, training as subway driver. Smiles a lot. Has a likeable appeal and charm about him.
The following role has been cast:
Shipkov: CAST. (Male 40s) Bulgarian immigrant. Roza’s husband, drives a subway train. Former ringmaster.
