Seeking:

Note: All Equity-contract roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Other roles will be played by students. All actors must feel comfortable working in graduate-level classes in English, Writing and Theatre. Actors are not responsible for course work, but assist faculty by exploring texts of all kinds and facilitating class discussions.

Blanche:

CAST. Early 30s. Delicate but determined Southern woman, both romantic and realistic. Seeking refuge from a painful, lonely life and, as her efforts fail, grows progressively more disturbed. Described by Williams as a moth attracted to a flame, she is the heart of the play.

Stella:

CAST. Mid – late 20s. Blanche’s sister, in some ways her opposite. Has made a choice to make a life with her husband Stanley, who offers her sexual satisfaction and security, while expecting her to be what he wishes her to be. She is often passive in the face of pleas. Pregnant for most of the play.

Stanley:

CAST. About 30. Stella’s husband and Blanche’s foil. “Animal joy in his being is implicit in all his movements and attitudes”, is how TW describes him. He is hearty with men, appreciates rough humor, and loves food and drink. Also abuses his wife and expects that she will do what he wants her to do. Finds Blanche to be deceitful, and tries to protect his family from her.

Mitch:

CAST. About 30. Stanley’s friend, and hesitant suitor to Blanche. Still lives with his mother, who is ill. Lonely, shy, gentle and unconfident of himself with women (or at least with Blanche). Sensitive man surrounded by friends who are not.

Eunice:

CAST. Stella’s neighbor. Offers comfort to Stella and to Blanche at important moments. She is unafraid to battle with her husband, and takes satisfaction in their ability to make up.

Steve:

CAST. Eunice’s husband. Good friend to Stanley; shares his masculine approach to the world. He and Eunice have a mixed relationship – part aggressive, part sensual.
