Performs July 5, 6, 9, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 23, 28, 29 & 31 at 8pm as well as July 10, 16, 24 & 30 at 2pm at the cell theatre in Chelsea.

This modernized A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, which will grapple with contemporary America's sexual hang-ups and resistance to gay marriage.

Seeking;

Puck / Philostrate:

(Male or Female) 20s to 30s. Any race or ethnicity. Actor or actress must play both Puck and Theseus’s Master of the Revels. As Puck he/she should be mischievous, bright, physically animated and brimming with energy. As the Philostrate he/she should be officious, effete and very stylish (think Tim Gunn ala Project Runway)

Oberon / Hippolyta:

(Female) 20s to 40s. Any race or ethnicity. Actress must play both the king of the fairies, and also the legendary queen of the Amazons who is engaged to Theseus. As Oberon, the actress must be able to project authority and raw masculine power (think Grace Jones) and as Hippolyta she must be able to temper that masculinity with a genuine and honest feminine mystique. Should be statuesque and striking.

Titania / Theseus:

(Male) 20s to 50s. Any race or ethnicity. Actor must play both the beautiful queen of the fairies, and also Theseus the heroic duke of Athens. As Theseus, the actor must be able to exude the

Lysander:

(Female) 20s to 30s. Any race or ethnicity. A young woman of Athens. Lysander is desperately in love with Hermia, but she is barred from marrying her lover by both law and Hermia’s insistent father who prefers that his daughter marry a man. Impetuous and bold. A true romantic.

Demetrius:

(Male) 20s to 30s. Any race or ethnicity. A young man of Athens. Demetrius is a closeted homosexual who has jilted his former lover in the hopes of a straight marriage with Hermia. He is in denial of his true self, expressing misdirected anger and obstinately pursues a “normal” relationship.

Hermia:

(Female) 20s. Any race or ethnicity. Egeus’s daughter, a young woman of Athens. Beautiful and petite. Hermia is deeply in love with Lysander, but her father vociferously objects to the match and instead insists on a straight match and tries to force Hermia to marry Demetrius.

Helena:

(Male) 20s to 30s. Any race or ethnicity. A young man of Athens still in love with Demetrius despite his rejection. Insecure about his looks, he should be quite tall but in truth quite attractive as well. Helena refuses to give up on Demetrius and pursues his love with a singular passion. Should be physically expressive.

Egeus / Tom Snout:

(Male) 40s to 60s. Any race or ethnicity. Actor plays both Hermia’s overbearing father, Egeus, and Tom Snout the rude mechanical. Character actor.

Nick Bottom:

(Male) 20s to 40s. Any race or ethnicity. Overconfident, oblivious, self-centered, braggart blowhard, but still needs to have an insidious charm. A real clown.

Peter Quince:

(Male or Female) 20s to 40s. Any race or ethnicity. A competent carpenter and steady figure. Eager and earnest. The straight man to the jokester.

Robin Starveling:

(Male or Female) 20s to 40s. Any race or ethnicity. The bumbling tailor who suffers from crippling stage fright.

Snug:

(Male) 20s to 40s. Any race or ethnicity. Goofy and well-meaning workman who starts off timid but finds his inner beast late in the play.

Flute:

(Male) 20s to 40s. Any race or ethnicity. A simple blue-collar craftsman with dreams of being an actor, he plays Thisbe with relish despite his beer belly and beard.
