Eight organizations in southwest Detroit invite you to explore southwest Detroit's hottest new block on Saturday, December 14 as Matrix Theatre Company, 555 Gallery, Repair the World, the Ford Resource Engagement Center, Detroit Farm & Garden, Southwest Solutions, Living Arts and Donovan's Pub present "Southwest Holiday Fest" from 3 - 9 pm in the heart of Mexicantown.
Stroll down 21st Street and sip a hot chocolate or a spiced cider, and sample special Holiday treats as you enjoy an afternoon and evening of live entertainment, along with arts and crafts, tree, and wreath shopping, and a special visit from Santa Claus from 4 - 6 pm at Matrix Theatre on Bagley! Move on up the street to Repair the World's Clothing & Rummage Swap which is a great opportunity to bring items for an exchange or just to take something that catches your fancy. After the sun sets, hop over to 555 for their "Naughty or Nice" party at 7 pm, featuring music and beer and wine for purchase.
"We have something for everyone," said event co-chair Molly McMahon, Communications Coordinator for Matrix Theatre Company. "There are activities for young and old, including a special evening of
"Carol-aoke" at Donavan's Bar near the corner of 21st and Vernor. We are really looking forward to showing off our neighborhood," McMahon said. Visitors with bigger appetites can cross the pedestrian bridge into the heart of Mexicantown and enjoy one of the area's many restaurants, or walk up Bagley Street and sample great Mexican food from Mexican Village. Honey Bee Market also offers lots of ethnic specialty foods and spices.
The "Southwest Holiday Fest" is supported, in part, by the Ford Fund.
