A Motor City-themed party is planned at Donovan's Pub in Southwest Detroit to raise funds for Dream Deferred: Detroit, 1967, Matrix Theatre Company's final and most anticipated Mainstage production of the season. The fundraiser will take place on Friday, March 31 from 6 PM to 9 PM at Donovan's Pub, a popular Irish-American pub with a Polish-American proprietor, located at 3003 West Vernor Hwy in the heart of Detroit's Mexicantown. For more information, visit www.matrixtheatre.org.
A $10 cover charge will get you in to the event, which features coveted door prizes, games, groovy music, a cash bar, and ticket discounts for Dream Deferred: Detroit, 1967. Patrons will also have a chance to take home two tickets to see the hit musical sensation, Hamilton, in Chicago. Matrix Theatre's Artistic Director, Megan Buckley-Ball, will serve as the guest bartender for the evening's festivities.
"I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the bar for this fundraiser, which will be a great opportunity for everyone to get together and have some fun for a wonderful cause," said Buckley-Ball. "Dream Deferred: Detroit, 1967 is proving to be an exciting and unique project, and this event will ensure that we are able to create and produce the highest-quality production possible. Donovan's Pub has been a great supporter of Matrix over the years, and providing the perfect venue for this fundraiser is no exception."
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward funding the final production of Matrix's 2016 - 2017 Mainstage Season, Dream Deferred: Detroit, 1967, which runs June 2 through 25. Honoring the 50th Anniversary of a formative time in Detroit history, this original production unearths, for the first time, real interviews recorded by Dr. Xavier Nicholas in the aftermath of that summer's uprising. By honing in on the singular experiences and perspectives of a cross-section of Detroiters, Dream Deferred: Detroit, 1967 shares the voices and stories from this seismic moment in our shared past that still reverberates half a century later. Partnerships and events related to the production will be announced at a later date.
