Jeremy Heere is just an average teenager. That is, until he finds out about “The Squip,” a tiny supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine, an invite to the raddest party of the year and a chance to survive life in his suburban New Jersey high school. But is being the most popular guy in school worth the risk? A hit on Broadway and in the West End, Be More Chill is based on the novel by Ned Vizzini.
Be More Chill's journey started as a young adult novel. Written by Ned Vizzini, the book hit shelves in 2004. It wasn't until over a decade later that the story would find new life on stage. In 2015, a regional theater production debuted the musical adaptation with music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and a book by Joe Tracz. While the initial run didn't lead to another production right away, the cast recording gained a surprising amount of online traction in 2017, reaching the Top 10 of Billboard's Cast Album chart. This newfound popularity fueled an Off-Broadway run in 2018. The positive buzz continued, eventually landing the musical a coveted spot on Broadway in March of 2019.
