Arts education programs impact young people beyond the art which the programs teach - studies over the years have pointed to improved cognitive abilities as well as boosts in self-confidence and self-esteem. Stamford's Palace Theatre continues its efforts to offer arts education opportunities to the community with its 3rd Annual Young Choreographers Festival on Sunday, November 17th at 5 p.m. Dress rehearsals are scheduled on Saturday, November 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, November 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., where the choreographers will be available for photo ops and interviews. This program is made possible through the generous support of Presenting Sponsors F. D. Rich & Trump Parc Stamford, Purdue Pharma and RFR Stamford. Tickets are on sale now at www.SCAlive.org.

Designed for student choreographers ages 13 to 18, the Young Choreographers Festival is part of The Palace's commitment to supporting dance through vibrant educational experiences. This year's festival will feature the participation of 22 choreographers from 9 dance schools in Westchester and Fairfield Counties. The choreographers must demonstrate leadership as they audition dancers, organize rehearsals, book studio space with their dance schools, choose their music and costumes, plus - in their brief 20 minute tech/dress rehearsal - design the lighting. These original dance pieces range in style from contemporary, to lyrical, to jazz/funk, to ballet. Some tell a story about life, love and friendship while others are more abstract presentations.

"The Young Choreographers Festival is such a unique opportunity for young dancers," said program creator and Palace Theatre Director of Education Carol Bryan. "Not only do they have the chance to work with true theater professionals, but they also have the opportunity to perform on a professional stage. Beyond the dance experience, I have had parents tell me that the experience has completely changed their child's outlook - they are more confident and outgoing. And that is why programs like this festival are so important: the life lessons go beyond the dance studio and the stage."

Tickets for the 3rd Annual Young Choreographers Festival on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 5 p.m. are $20 for Adults and $15 for Students, including per-ticket fees, and are on sale now at www.SCAlive.org, charge by phone with major credit cards by calling the Palace Theatre Box Office at 203-325-4466 or in person at the Palace Theatre in downtown Stamford, CT.
