Manhattan Books
Encore College Bookstores, Inc., our parent corporation, was founded in September 1988 with the acquisition of Zavelle Bookstore in Philadelphia, PA. Zavelle Bookstore has served the community of students at Temple University for over 70 years.
Manhattan Books opened in February 1990 to continue our philosophy that all students should have the opportunity to buy and sell their textbooks at the best possible price. In those "pre-internet" years, the only place that students could shop was at the institutional bookstore. As an independent bookseller we gave students another outlet where they could get the required books for their courses. Our new website is yet another way we hope to offer textbooks and course materials at competitive prices.

McNally Jackson Books
Welcome to McNally Jackson Books, (est. December 2004), a big, beautiful independent bookstore in New York's Nolita, where Soho, Noho, the Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Little Italy meet (it's also a stone's throw from Tribeca, the East Village, West Village, and Wall Street.... Not to mention a quick subway ride from Brooklyn, a bike ride from Harlem, and a PATH fare from the great state of New Jersey). In other words, we're right in the middle of the criss-crossing currents of New York's eclectic cultural life and we're determined to capture that invigorating swirl in our mix of books, media, and events.

Three Lives & Company Bookstore
In 1991, the Greenwich Village Historical Society cited us for being "a pocket of civility." With the advent of the big chains and more recently the internet, there is little room to be competitive by having more or costing less. Our survival has been due to our commitment to being that "pocket" - and embracing our client's wish, for a bookstore that they have helped create.
A knowledgeable staff that reads prodigiously has been a key to our success, as has a theatrical and artistic display of the books we carry. Special orders remain a significant area of service, and we are meticulous about our follow through. We thrive on discovering literary books that might otherwise be overlooked, and thrill to give them to our customers.
