We are a virtually different kind of theater company.
When we started, there was no template for creating theater over the internet, which turned out to be perfect because we could remove all the obstacles that held us back.
At the time, we didn’t know what zoom was or how we could use it. Would people even know how to use it? How much would it cost? And what the heck is a virtual background?
We had so many questions, but we watched all of our productions canceled in those horrible first days of Spring 2020.
We didn’t have to create a “season” of plays; we could choose any plays we wanted to do. It gave us a kind of freedom to select the best work we can find without appeasing a particular audience. We choose the plays, cast the roles, then we find an audience.
Now that we are moving into a post-pandemic world we need to change too. We are moving to a workshop model where we work with playwrights to develop their work. We hope that this is the kind of experience that will make better theater avaialbel and bring new voices out.

How Ten Minute Play Festivals Are Destroying Playwrighting
If you go to any playwright’s portfolio, you will see dozens of 10 minute plays that they wrote to satifsfy the never ending requirements of the old standy the Ten minute play festival. These productions are used by physical theater’s to show their donors that they are engaing with new and exciting playwrights. Bonus points are awarded for “edgy” subject matter.
As a consequence of all these festivals, new playwrights looking to make the “stage” spend hundreds of hours a year that could be better served reading others work and writing their own, working on submission packets to festivals.
The prospect of “being produced” drives playwrights to apply en masse. There are 100’s of applications for four slots. Some playwrights are so desperate to be produced they will apply to hundreds of these festivals every year.
We don’t do ten minute work here unless it is for thematic purposes. Occasionally we will have a night where we put 5 or 6 ten minute plays together around a particular topic. But frankly we would prefer not to do that at all.
Plays need room to breathe. They need words on a page and time to develop. With so much great work being trimmed down to fit into the tyrannical restraints of the ten minute format, we are all losing out. We are being cheated out of a great story because it is more convinet for the producing company to have short work that doesn’t cost much to put on.
We want to see stories that determine the length of the play.
