Don Bender and Vincent Lonergan make their side project debuts under the direction of Adam Webster in the world premiere of National Book Award finalist Sherod Santos' Lives of the Pigeons, opening June 1. With shades of Pinter and Becket, and splashes of Mamet and Albee, Santos weaves a tale in which Gus and Max spend a day in the park, like every other day, on a day that, with the arrival of a mysterious man with a cane, is like no other. Santos' 70-minute, 3-character play is a poetic and darkly comic take on individual identity and purpose in life and the nature of absolution, if and when it exists.

"I was immediately drawn to the play's Pinteresque mood and Rod's Beckettian dialogue, both of which speak to exactly what the side project explores in terms of language and tone," Webster said. "We are thrilled to present the premiere of the play, especially in our tight confines, which are intriguingly well-suited to the piece."

Signal Ensemble member Vincent Lonergan plays Gus, while Lifeline and City Lit regular Don Bender plays Max. Matthew Lloyd plays the Man with the Cane. Costumes are by Crystal Mazur, set and prop design is by Dustin Pettegrew, lighting is by Christine Grodecki, and sound design is by Stephen Gawrit.

Tickets $20.00, $15.00 for seniors and students
