This Saturday, July 16, at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, Telemundo presents the documentary COSECHA DE MISERIA, a co-production of Noticias Telemundo and The Weather Channel, which exposes exploitative child labor practices on coffee plantations in the Mexican state of Chiapas. The documentary will also be available the same day on NoticiasTelemundo.com, the Telemundo News App and Youtube channel, as well as weather.com, the website of The Weather Channel, a consumer brand of The Weather Company, an IBM Business.
"Cosecha de Miseria" is the product of nine months of research documenting the tasks performed by the migrant children who work in coffee production and the role played by regulatory agencies, intermediaries and transnational companies in perpetuating the situation. The Noticias
Telemundo and
The Weather Channel investigative teams visited plantations in Chiapas to uncover working conditions there and explore the circumstances that make such exploitation possible. The documentary features the testimony of young workers and their parents, in addition to interviews with coffee farmers, merchants, labor activists and agencies charged with protecting the rights of children.
In September 2015, Noticias
Telemundo and
The Weather Channel won a news and documentary Emmy Award, a George Polk award, and the Investigative Reporters and Editors gold medal for their co-production "Muriendo por Cruzar."
