"We are honored and extremely proud to have received record nominations in every film category of the Imagen Awards for FLUENCY's Ana Maria in Novela Land," said Peter Blacker, Executive Vice President, Digital Media & Emerging Businesses, Hispanic Enterprises and Content, NBCUniversal. "Our goal is to create innovative storylines with new perspectives, compelling voices and vibrant talent in order to relate to a new multicultural generation, and with this film, we have achieved just that."
Ana Maria in Novela Land is a romantic comedy about a young woman who magically wakes up as the vixen in her favorite Mexican novela and gets to live out her wildest fantasies, starting with a love triangle between a wealthy playboy and his sexy son. But she'll have to face her insecurities about her real life if she doesn't want to get trapped inside novela land forever. The film stars a group of seasoned and up-and-coming performers led by Edy Ganem ("Devious Maids"), in a breakout, dual role as both Ana Maria and Ariana Tomosa; Michael Steger ("90210") as Tony, the love-struck doctor next door, and as Armando, the playboy son of Ariana's wealthy fiancé; Luis Guzmán ("Boogie Nights") as Schmidt, the scheming lawyer who wants to bring Ana Maria down; Nestor Serrano, Ana Maria's patient father who adores her no matter what; newcomer Carla Morrison (Latin Grammy winning Singer/Songwriter) as Laura, Ana Maria's no-nonsense best friend; and the late Elizabeth Peña as Ana Maria's well-intentioned, but hard-edged mother. This movie sadly marked her last film.
In addition, TELEMUNDO's music competition series "La Voz Kids" received a nomination in the Best Variety or Reality Show category.
