The Green Mountain Opera Festival has announced the cancellation of its 2015 season.
In June 2014, the Green Mountain Opera Festival concluded its most artistically successful season in the history of the nine year old festival. Standing ovations were given at all performances and the artistic standards presented during the 2014 festival were the highest yet. The festival enjoyed accolades from the public, the press and the performing arts industry.
Throughout the history of the Green Mountain Opera Festival, a commitment to the highest possible standards put the Mad River Valley and central Vermont on the map as a place to experience exciting, high level professional operatic performances. The acclaimed Emerging Artist program has contributed toward the cultivation of the next generation of opera singers in the United States and Canada, and alumni can be seen and heard in important opera houses in North America and abroad. The marriage of community volunteerism and professional artistic guidance utilizing a modest budget has been the formula of this ambitious festival since its inception. While festival planning was always engineered with an eye toward fiscal responsibility, after considerable analysis it has been decided with great sadness that the Festival is not in a position to mount a 2015 season.
The GMOF will maintain its Executive Charter and evaluate future options.
For nine seasons, creative teams, performing artists, production staff, volunteers and supporters have had a significant impact on the arts in Central Vermont. The arts community can be proud of what has been achieved here.

We are proud to be a professional company member of Opera America. A significant reason for the festival's success is due to the very strong community support. A huge thank you goes to all dedicated volunteers and generous donors.
Spanning almost the entire month of June, festival activities include an acclaimed Emerging Artist Program, a free Master Class series, free open rehearsals, concerts featuring music from the operatic stage, Broadway and beyond, and fully-staged and semi-staged opera productions accompanied by the Green Mountain Opera Orchestra and Ensemble.
