From the creative mind of artistic producer and music director Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, NBC's The Sing-Off) comes Vocalosity, an all-new a cappella experience that is both a live concert event and a new album. On January 15, 2016 Universal Music Classics releases their debut record, Vocalosity, with a national tour kicking off simultaneously in Gainesville, FL (full itinerary below).
Vocalosity came together through the passion and vision of Sharon, dubbed the "father of contemporary a cappella." Having built a career in a cappella as a singer, arranger, director and producer, Vocalosity is the culmination of everything he has accomplished over the past twenty years in this genre. Sharon explains, "Working with these all-star singers in VOCALOSITY and getting them ready to go on the road and connect with audiences through the power of music is the most important thing I can be doing right now."
Vocalosity features an ensemble of diverse young vocalists tackling a variety of technically dynamic songs that run the gamut of older classics to contemporary chart-topping hits. The brand new arrangements set a new standard for 12-part harmony. Highlights include Janelle Monae's rousing "Tightrope," Walk The Moon's smash "Shut Up and Dance," and a wailing beat-box-driven interpretation of Led Zepplin's "Whole Lotta Love." The all-star group showcases their incredible range with ballads such as "Hallelujah," the summer hit "See You Again," and the classic jazz number "Fever" among others.
Vocalosity's fast-paced live production will include tracks from the album along with additional numbers for the tour. The lively direction and choreography is by Sean Curran, an original cast member of the off-Broadway percussion extravaganza Stomp.
Deke Sharon's name is synonymous with a cappella. He's arranged more than 2,000 songs for a cappella, produced albums for the likes of Straight No Chaser, and was the musical consultant for projects such as Pitch Perfect and The Sing Off. On January 5, Lifetime premieres the reality show, Pitch Slapped, starring Sharon as one of two singing mentors.
