Indie pop/folk/electro duo STRANGERS YOU KNOW is gearing up for a busy 2016. The group will perform at the HANGOUT Music Festival, during the weekend of May 20-22, 2016 in Gulf Shores, AL, as well as the Firefly Music Festival, June 16-19, 2016 in Dover, DE. Tickets for both festivals go on sale this week.
To coincide with the announcement of their first major music festival appearances, STRANGERS YOU KNOW has released two new singles--"Queen Of Venice Beach (Oowee)" and "Shoot Me Down'--available for a limited time as free downloads via their SoundCloud. This marks the first new music off the band's forthcoming EP, due out in early 2016. A lyric music video for "Queen Of Venice Beach (Oowee)" also premiered via their Hangout Festival webpage; watch it now below!
The two tracks, dubbed Pre/Post, showcase the pair's range and versatility musically, while also aligning together lyrically to share a complete story about the complexities of young love. "Queen Of Venice Beach (Oowee)" puts a spin on classic pop/electronic, evoking the excitement of budding romance. By combining vintage visuals with modern melodies and lyrics, the video further brings to life the actuality of the lyrics, as portrayed through old-fashioned clips featuring the timeless romantic interactions between men and women. "Shoot Me Down" offers a glimpse into the band's thoughtful and poignant side, with intoxicating melodies and raw, heartfelt lyrics.
"Pre/Post started as an exploration of the harsh hookup culture of LA," the two share. "From 1 OAK Los Angeles to Beverly Drive, this two song collection follows drunken infatuation and the impact of sobering reality."
Upon meeting serendipitously at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, Grady Lee(vocals, guitar) and Adam Haagen (piano, guitar, vocals, banjo, mandolin) formed an immediate connection over synths, beats, guitars, lyrics and melody, leading to theirfirst EP Something to Someone released in early summer 2014. After the EP's release, the band appeared at a few U.S. festivals such as the Vans Warped Tour,First City Festival and Sunset Strip Music Festival. In early 2015, the pair put out their debut full-length album, What Happened, a representation of the band's rich, eclectic sound.
STRANGERS YOU KNOW takes inspiration from many different sources, with each member bringing their own color to the group. Adam, a native of West LA, and Grady, a Santa Barbara local, draw on many different influences ranging from folk to rock to pop to electronica. Their sound represents everything that they're feeling in the moment.
