For the final performance of his spring solo tour, Italian classical guitarist Roberto Fabbri will take the stage in Oakland University's Varner Recital Hall at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 21. The event caps an international tour that included shows in Italy and the United States.
Fabbri performs both as a soloist and with the famous guitar quartet Nexus, now known as the Roberto Fabbri Guitar Quartet. He is regularly invited to perform and give master classes at international guitar festivals and to judge at competitions around the world. An acclaimed writer and composer, Fabbri is also the headmaster and teacher of classical guitar at Novamusica e Arte in Rome.
He is featured on the CD "Pure Emotions - Classical Guitar Love," an anthology that includes pieces by renowned guitarists such as Andrés Segovia and Julian Bream. The premier guitar publication "Soundboard" described Fabbri as "Flamboyant and technically astonishing - a definite crowd pleaser."
For his OU performance, Fabbri will play compositions from his CDs "Beyond" and "Nei tuoi occhi." "Soundboard" notes that Fabbri's compositions "range from unabashedly pretty to exuberant barn-burners, often with a pop sensibility."
The concert is free and reservations are not required. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map or by searching for "Varner Hall" on a smartphone. Ample free parking will be available.
