According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zac Efron is set to star in a new supernatural drama THE FALLING from director Akiva Goldsman. The actor will also produce the project via his Ninjas Runnin' Wild Production Company, along with Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures.

The film is described as "an edgy thriller centering around an otherworldly being." A search for a screenwriter is currently underway.

Goldsman is making his directorial debut in Winter's Tale with a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Will Smith and Russell Crowe.

Efron is best known for his lead roles in the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical, the WB series Summerland, and the 2007 film version of the Broadway musical Hairspray. He has since starred in the films 17 Again, Me and Orson Welles, Charlie St. Cloud, New Year's Eve, The Lucky One and The Lorax. He is currently filming the JFK drama Parkland opposite Jacki Weaver and Paul Giamatti.
