The first promotional trailer for stage and screen stalwart Tom Hiddleston's highly anticipated return to the stage in the title role of William Shakespeare's bleak historical tragedy CORIOLANUS is now available to view, featuring the actor speaking at length about what audiences can expect from not only the upcoming live performances at the Donmar Warehouse but also the international screening of the theatrical event next year.
Hiddleston will take on the title role in the war-themed tragedy at the Donmar Warehouse in London's West End, running December 6 through February 8, 2014. The production will be directed by Josie Rourke.
The official synopsis of CORIOLANUS as per the Donmar Warehouse is as follows: "When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too. Famine threatens the city, the citizens' hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people."
Additionally, CORIOLANUS will be filmed and broadcast as part of National Theatre Live on January 30, 2014.
Hiddleston previously starred in Shakespeare's OTHELLO and CYMBELINE onstage, as well as in BBC's THE HOLLOW CROWN film series last year, portraying Prince Hal in HENRY IV Parts 1 and 2 as well as HENRY V. Of note, THE HOLLOW CROWN continues tonight on PBS in the US.
