Alessandra Corona Performing Works (formerly A Corona Works) will present two premieres by Italian choreographers:
"Amore Impossibile," a dance/theater work by Kristian Cellini of Rome, inspired by The Lady of the Camellias. Music is by Chopin with additional original music by American composer Thomas Lentakis, and
"Just Joy," by Guido Tuveri who, like Ms. Corona, is a native of Cagliari, Sardinia. Music is a blend of songs from Sardinia, sung in their native language, and original music by Lentakis in this dance that celebrates many stages of life: joy, sorrow, love, innocence, and more.
Ms. Corona has assembled a company of outstanding young dancers:
MICHAEL BISHOP graduated from Belhaven University in his native Mississippi, receiving the Bezalel Award for outstanding artistic achievement in his senior class. After moving to New York, Michael toured internationally with the David Gordon Pick Up Performance Company, and with Deeply Rooted Productions.
ALESSANDRA CORONA, from Cagliari, Sardinia, trained in Rome and, upon moving to NY, was invited to join Ballet Hispanico, where she appeared as principal dancer for 12 years. At the invitation of Ann Reinking, she toured for 2 years with "Fosse," followed by an appearance in "No Strings" at City Center's Encore! series, choreographed by Reinking. Alessandra founded Alessandra Corona Performing Works in 2012 with a commitment to creating dance and dance/theater works by artists from around the world.
JAMES JOHNSON graduated from Juilliard in 2012, and has danced with Attack Theatre Dance Company and Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, touring with the Company in the U.S. and Canada.
Colombia native NICHOLAS MONTERO graduated from the Conservatory of Dance Carmen Amaya in Madrid. In New York he has studied on scholarship at the schools of the Boston Ballet and Joffrey Ballet, and performed with the Cleveland Ballet.
DANNON O'BRIEN, from Austin, Texas, graduated in 2016 with a BFA from Marymount Manhattan College. He also works with the NYC-based J. Chen Project, dancing and choreographing.
CASSANDRA OREFICE, from Vancouver, Wa., began her ballet training as a tot, and subsequently added modern, jazz, and aerial skills to her repertory. Since moving to NY she has performed with companies and commercial events, including NY Couture Fashion Week.
MARIA VITTORIA VILLA graduated from the Centro Studi Coreografici Teatro Carcano in Milan and came to NY to study on scholarship at The Ailey School, appearing with the Company in a work by Matthew Rushing. She has also danced with Graham 2, Vanessa Long Dance Company, and Smashwork.
FULVIO DELLA VOLTA (narrator) describes himself as "born in Switzerland, raised in Italy, crafted in New York." In 2005 he earned a Masters in Communication & Media studies at La Sapienza U of Rome, and in 2009 graduated form the William Esper Studio Program in NY.
