Larry Rachleff's final concert as Music Director with the RI Philharmonic on Saturday, May 6 at 7pm is almost sold out. Due to high demand, an additional performance of the farewell program has been added on Friday, May 5 at 7pm. The additional performance aims to give the entire community a chance to see Larry one last time before his retirement after twenty one years with the Orchestra.
The program features Music Director Larry Rachleff conducting mezzo-soprano Susan Lorette Dunn in Canteloube 's Chants d'Auvergne (Songs of the Auvergne), as well as the Orchestra performing Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Richard Strauss' An Alpine Symphony.
"We've really pulled out all the stops for Larry's final concert," says David Beauchesne, Executive Director. "The Canteloube and Debussy are favorite pieces that mean a lot to Larry and the Orchestra, and the Strauss is a colossal work they've always wanted to do together. Having his wife, and audience favorite Susan Lorette Dunn with us makes it even more special. Farewells are bittersweet, but this concert will be a joyful experience for our audience and Orchestra to share."
Tickets are available for both nights (while supplies last) starting at $15 by contacting the RI Philharmonic Box Office at 401.248.7000 or tickets.riphil.org.
