BYUtv Broadcast of James Taylor, Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Utah Symphony Wins 2014 Emmy

An hour-long televised musical special on BYU Broadcasting featuring the Utah Symphony with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and American folksinger, James Taylor, has won an Emmy at the 2014 Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards. Scroll down to watch a clip from the performance!

The award in the category of "Special Event Coverage (other than news or sports)-Live or Edited," was presented to BYU Broadcasting on October 18, 2014 by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). Award recipients included producers Jim Bell and Ed Payne; Choir music director Mack Wilberg and general manager Scott Barrick; and BYU Broadcasting executive producers Derek Marquis and Scott Swofford.

BYU Broadcasting recorded the live concert in October 2013, which coincided with the 30th anniversary celebration of the ongoing O.C. Tanner Gift of Music series. The late Obert C. Tanner established and endowed the free concert series presenting the Utah Symphony with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with soloists, conductors and other choirs as guests in 1983 to foster unity and shared community revolving around the performing arts.

The one-hour special, "The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Presents an Evening with James Taylor", aired on BYUtv in April 2014, and showcases the talents of the 360-member Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the 83-member Utah Symphony, and the legendary Mr. Taylor, who performed hits from his 40-year career, including "Up on the Roof," "The Water Is Wide," "Shed a Little Light" and "You've Got a Friend."
