Scuba diving instructor Virginia Huerlin Long Cross shares stories and images of exciting and ethereal natural beauty and blues in her book, "Spirit of Underwater Encounters" (published by Xlibris). The author believes this is one way she could inspire people to take on the world of sports, particularly diving, and at the same time, teach them to keep safe.

It all started when Cross moved to Whidbey Island. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the place served as the catalyst for her new adventure. There, she met Monte Merserve who encouraged her to join the Island Sea Jesters Diving Club. It was his enthusiasm for diving and sharing the sport with others that pulled her into deep sea diving. Then, others came into the picture of underwater diving for work in the field, such as finding lost objects, repairing equipment, hauling up sunken ships, working with police force and travel.

In this book, the author covers the many facets of diving - from deep sea diving, the physics of diving and swimming to putting into practice the rules of diving safely. She also underlines the importance of faith in God. "I feel this book will appeal to all readers in all walks of life as the ideas apply to any person of interest if they put God first in everything they do," she says. "They'll get their answers. Mine happens to be in a world of waters and swimming and diving."

An insightful read, "Spirit of Underwater Encounters" accepts the fact that deep sea diving is not for everyone but it is still valuable for many to know the safety rules. The author stresses abiding by those rules is of paramount importance if one wishes to achieve a fun underwater adventure.
