For anyone who grew up in the 2000s, the music of Ne-Yo and Akon formed part of the soundtrack to an entire generation. On June 17, the two hitmakers brought their co-headlining NIGHTS LIKE THIS tour to Rogers Arena, launching the North American leg of the 57-city world tour in Vancouver, BC. Built around nostalgia and packed with songs that dominated radio, clubs, and playlists throughout the mid-2000s, NIGHTS LIKE THIS reunited two artists whose catalogs have remained staples for more than two decades. Throughout the evening, Ne-Yo and Akon traded the spotlight while revisiting the hits that helped establish them as two of the most recognizable voices of their generation.

The Stratford Festival’s Tom Patterson Theatre continues to demonstrate why it should be considered one of the best spaces in the world to mount Shakespeare. Director Haysam Kadri’s production of OTHELLO is stirring and powerful, with excellent performances by the entire company. Led by André Sills as Othello and Evan Buliung as Iago, this cast elevates every scene of this devastating Shakespearean tragedy. Themes of doubt, jealousy, manipulation, belonging, and betrayal, along with explorations of racism, and misogyny are explored with nuance and deliberateness. This paired with reflective and moving performances leaves audiences clinging to every word – spoken and unspoken.

Casting high school aged teen-agers can be a trickier needle to thread than one might think. Two actors who are still in high school wrestling down the spectrum of emotions, growth journeys and heartbreak of Shakespeare’s tale is no small achievement. Asher Hagler and Quinnlyn Scheppner make their marks; they are charismatic, genuine and, yes, also very young.

Peter Pan is famous for never growing up and bringing Wendy and her brothers to Neverland to stop the ruthless Captain Hook. In Peter Pan and Mary, we go back many years and meet Mary, Wendy’s mother. Hope Lowry, as Peter Pan, portrayed this well-loved character as confident and adventurous, and maybe a tad self-centered. Mary, played by Rory Fogle, was as adventurous and confident as Peter Pan. This self-proclaimed Pirate expert was perfect to bring back to Neverland to defeat the evil pirate, Captain Barbecue, played by Caryn Darrow. Darrow was evil, manipulative, and cunning in this role. Without giving too much away, Mark Tauzin’s portrayal of Jimmy was excellent as he showed the evolution of this character.

At the age of 10, my daughter was completely spellbound by The Magic Flute at Opera Holland Park, striking up a lifelong love of opera, dance and theatre. So, what better way to introduce children to opera than down the rabbit hole of one of Opera Holland Park's most cherished productions, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Princess Anastasia has been found at the Royal Theatre in Benton. Seriously, I am a starry-heart eyes believer that Karis Martin is the real lost princess. There is no way you can tell me otherwise, and if you don't believe me, go see for yourself. This is your last weekend to catch Anastasia, and trust me, you do not want to miss it. Directed by Jeremy Clay, with Assistant Director Aubree Blankenship, Co-Music Directors Justin and Heidi McCartney, and Choreographer Jordyn Purtle, this sweeping musical adventure is filled with romance, humor, and enough theatrical magic to leave audiences completely enchanted.
