Oh please nice lady, don't turn this into a musical with the singing and the dancing and don't bring it to Broadway where it'll meet with the bashing and the panning and the sucking and the hating *Glavin*

I went to see Lewis in Damn Yankees kind of as a goof and walked away won over by the guy. So even though I have to acknowledge there's a reasonable chance this'll be a disaster I'll keep an open mind and hope this turns out to be a final blaze of glory.

Jim Carey would be an excellent choice for the title role. There are great possibilities for this but Jerry Lewis hasn't directed for the stage and this would become another VICTOR, VICTORIA! or RED SHOES--both shows directed by Hollywood refugees.

Wasn't this supposed to come to broadway like 4 years ago?

If it wasn't good enough then, why is it good enough now? you can't tell me they somehow made the story watchable.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention "Victor/Victoria"!

That's what I expect this will turn out like:

First class designers, choreographer and a talented cast will be assembled, but because the person with the clout is someone who has never directed a Broadway musical (and who even hasn't directed a movie in a while and his last few films weren't hits), the results will be lifeless.

I hated the remake as much as anyone, but I think it "sings" more. Plus, I'm a sucker for multiple roles in theatre, and it's been 12 years since a show came out with a good multi-part role for a man.

That being said, it would be nigh-impossible to stage, what with only one Klump being onstage at a time except through elaborate trickery, but Marty did it in his revival of Little Me.

Pgenre, I've been pulling for a Bullets over Broadway musical forever. Allen's absured comedy in that movie would work perfectly on the stage. Those characters could have so many great songs. I just want one of Woody's classic to be turned to a stage musical.

I think Constantine Maroulis might be good in this one. He's got good comedic timing and a great voice. Plus, I'd like to see him play Buddy Love!

I haven't seen the original movie so I can't judge too much, but it doesn't sound like the best idea to me.

On the Ave, you should be pleased to know that Hamilisch worked with Marshall Brickman and a lyricist (was it Carnelia?) and the score for the show has been written for nearly a decade. Woody apparently went cold on the idea and won't let anyone else direct it so it's languished in development hell for a long time. Hopefully, the opera he staged quite successfully last year shows a renaissance of interest in theatrical endeavors though Hamlisch pursuing LIBERACE and this trash does not bode well for BOB. I, too, think this could be a classic musical to bookend Hamlisch's first, ACL.

Also, I think STARDUST MEMORIES, my favorite Allen film (and I own all 40 and have seen them countless times) would be a magnificent musical in the hands of the right artist.

MATCH POINT would make a great musical, too.

Monsieur Lewis still is talking up a Broadway opening - now in Fall 2010. He claims casting to begin soon.

I remember there was another thread about this where the guy Jerry had promised the role to was discussed. The film does have a bit of a theatrical feel and I can really see those night club scenes working well on stage.

"I'm directing the show in a manner in which you need space," Lewis said

I have a feeling there will be PLENTY of space--in the audience.

I also think that Sean Hayes would do really great with The Nutty Professor. He could play it quite well IMO.

Sean Hayes was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award for his work in Martin and Lewis in 2003. I think there was some talk of remaking Cinderfella for him at one time.

He may be too busy with Promises, Promises to be available for The Nutty Professor. But, yes, I think he is a great cast for The Nutty Professor.

I think this show is a great idea. Martin Short could definitely do it, but I'm wondering if he's the physical type to play Kelp.

We've discussed this before and I still say Hank Azaria.
He's got a new baby and would probably appreciate time away from the crying and the feeding and the pooping. GLAVIN!

Let's see:
A musical based on an awful movie, directed by a man who overacted and is homophobic, composed by a man whose music I can't stand and whose personality I hate even worse.
Sounds like a winner.
