re: Long awaited CBS TV version of SYBIL airs tonight! Saturday 6/7/08!

After a long gestation, the CBS TV movie adaptation of the novel SYBIL starring Jessica Lange and Tammy Blanchard airs tonight: Saturday June 7, 2008 at 8pm ET/PT.

Note, this film is based on the original SYBIL novel by Flora Rheta Schreiber and not the legendary 1976 NBC TV movie adaptation that starred Sally Field and Joanne Woodward.

Though the novel is indeed based on real people, the novel and its contents were debunct several years ago. Some of this is touched upon on the 2-disc DVD Special Edition of the 1976 TV movie adaptation. Yes, I know its upsetting to read this, but it is what it is -- a doctor with a marketing agenda and a 'great' fabricated subject for a novel.

Regardless, it is indeed a film to watch for the performances. It has already aired in the UK and word is quite positive, especially regarding Tammy Blanchard's performance.

I loved her work in the Judy Garland film; a well deserved Emmy for Tammy Blanchard. I'm looking forward to this film. My DVR is set!! hehe

It follows the Tony preview concert hosted by Mario Lopez, actually.

Wow. I watch a few CBS shows and I"ve seen no adverts for this. They really pushed it to a crappy time slot during a crappy time of year for TV.

I agree with you, Bobby. But Tammy Blanchard is quite a good film actress. Her work in ME AND MY SHADOWS is impeccable and even if THE GOOD SHEPARD was a big ol' bore, she shone through and put on quite a great performance. I'll see this on DVD, not a fan of Lange, but Blanchard is fab.

From what I've read that story was never completely debunked. It was challenged and had its detractors but was not totally discredited. If someone can post a link that discusses it being a totally false story, I would like to see it.

Why would you keep a DVD-R copy of the ABC TV movie of RAISIN IN THE SUN? It is already available on DVD and in a Special Edition, too.

I only bother to burn on DVD things that will NEVER be released on DVD, such as those LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER telecasts and the Tony Awards.

Probably because he or she feels like saving money and doesn't feel the need to have a special edition of the film and is content with just having the film itself?

Wow I got attacked for nothing, It is because I am one of those people that don't clean out my dvr. How do you burn them to a dvd?

The original was fabulous. The book was good too - although multiple personality syndrome is always a little hard to prove.

I just walked in about 20 minutes ago, but this is good so far. Blanchard bears a strange resemblance to Sally Field. I rented the original from netflix a few weeks ago but couldn't find the time to watch the entire thing.

Tammy Blanchard better win an Emmy and/or Golden Globe. She gave an incredible performance. Seriously.

OK, one scene really made me laugh -- when Sybil's mom appears in a mirror and pulls Sybil in. I thought: "How 'Poltergeist' of them." What made it even funnier is that I didn't even recognize that it was Jo Beth Williams in the role at that point.

Wow! Wow, wow, wow! Is it me, maybe I'm easily impressed, or was Tammy Blanchard amazing?!

I mean, DAMN!

Tammy Blanchard was phonominal! She is an amazing actress! Her Sybil was just...WOW! I really believed all 16 personalities were different people! She gave each one quirks and mannerisms that compltetely seperated them from eachother. Amazing!

Ugh, don't get me started. The case was shown to be not a true DID case. Why remake it and fool even more people?

Edit: There's a paper written by a therapist who reviewed the tapes and found that Dr. Wilbur basically implanted the personalities during hypnosis. The abuse was real, Sybil did have some psychological problems, but the DID was iatrogenic.

No one would ever dare make that--it's too controversial.

Still, there are so many equally interesting DID cases out there that haven't yet shown to be false. Truddi Chase, Joan Frances Casey, Marcia Cameron, etc. Why not make a movie based on one of them?
