Glenn Closeis determined to get theSunset Boulevardremake made.

“It’s moving forward,” Close, 77, exclusively toldUs Weeklyof the film atVariety’s 2024 Power of Women luncheon in New York City on Thursday, May 2. “The movie is in the works and I’m not giving up on that one.”

The Oscar nominee added that she loves the character Norma Desmond, whom she previously played in two separate runs of theSunset BoulevardBroadwaymusical.

“It’s so beautiful to me that she’s always still so relevant. The time passes, but that character is always important,” she said. “We’re trying to find a director, we have a great script. … That character of Norma is so heartbreakingly beautiful and will never not have relevance, it’s been a great blessing to play her and I’m not willing to let her go yet without one more tribute.”

Not in my Broadway history. I might be in the minority but I didnt like her portrayal of  Norma Desmond.

If we are just basing it on the Broadway production Betty Buckley was phenomenal.

I saw the revival and thought she was extraordinary.  Her Norma will never be surpassed.  Especially her cuckoo camp ending.

Has anyone ever asked themselves whatever became of Norma after the shooting?  Now that is a sequel I'd like to see!

She was committed to an institution, where she insisted they were making a musical movie version of the story.

Norma Desmond is not an “old-age actress.” That is such a misunderstanding of the role. She is considered past her prime for her era and too old to play roles like Salome. Her fame is fading and she is cast aside. She is not “old age.”

How long has she been talking about this? It feels like at least a decade.

I think Glen would make a great Kimberly Levaco. She's just about the right age too!!! Sadly, I don't think anyone's in any rush to make a Kimberly Akimbo movie.

Exactly. Norma is written to be fifty years old, not 80 (which is what Glenn would be by the time this supposed film would probably be released).

Close is just jealous that Nicole Scherzinger is getting so much praise for “her” role. Let it go, girl. “Nothing’s wrong with being eighty - unless you’re acting fifty!”

Shh! You don’t yell at a sleepwalker or she could fall and break her neck.

Just let Olivia Coleman do the movie and have someone dub the singing.

It woud be eerily meta if Schirzinger were to replace Close in a film adaptation ... if one ever gets made. lol.

I'm curious if anyone would actually want to see Nicole in a film version....her performance feels very theatrical and meant to be seen/heard live than on film. The energy in the theatre kind of feels like you're watching Whitney Houston and I don't see how to recreate that on film. I actually would prefer to see Glenn in a film version.

As for whether this will ever happen, maybe it won't but I will say that sometimes these things DO happen. For example, for years and years Chita would tell us that "The Visit" was coming to Broadway and each year everyone would roll their eyes until it actually happened.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
