Mark Rylance is my absolute favorite actor!! not only is he brilliant but he's so big and bold with his acting. He could have a new show every season on Broadway if he wanted. I SOO hope this transfers. he already has 3 tonys and I'm sure he will get a 4th very soon since he really is the best stage actor right now. Thank you for starting this thread!!
It should be interesting to see how it would sell on Broadway after the releases of Bridge of Spies and The BFG (two feature films he did with Steven Spielberg).
Slight correction: Nice Fish will be at the ART in late January & early Feb. It's being billed as a collaboration between the ART and St Ann's.
Why not just see it at St Ann's?
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I'm really looking forward to seeing him at St. Ann's. I've yet to see him live, or even see any example of his acting from press reels or films. I've heard he's amazing, so I'm really excited to see him.
JBroadway, there is quite a bit of him esp from his Globe days on youtube. There is not a single famous speech that his interpretation doesn't completely up-end our preconceived notions.
Pinto, surely school is not a 24/7 affair. I seem to recall otherwise when you were last in school.
the problem is not finding a theatre (well, maybe it is lol) but figuring out how to teleport Rylance from his other commitment in the UK every night. Of course, if they can figure that out, maybe they can figure out how to teleport you from Philadelphia to New York. But I think you could just come up on the bus some saturday or sunday and I'm sure if you miss the last bus back, one of the many industry insiders who have your ear would be delighted to let you sleep on their couch.
It's a very subtle, sweet little show and, even with Rylance, it's hard to imagine how it could work on Broadway, so St. Ann's seems like a good movie. He's terrific in it (of course).
lol im in collegeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
sillyphilly, you win.
I will NEVER respond to any of your posts again and I just hope others on here eventually do the same. So far you have taken no notice of what other seasoned contributors have said to you, but that is the folly of youth these days--'we are always right and can do as we God damn please'.
Good luck philly and maybe one dayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I'm going to sidetrack this and ask if anyone was able to do the on-stage seating for FARINELLI at the Globe (or if they even had the on-stage seating). I have a ticket for the West End transfer at the Duke of York's and was looking for any comments on the view. I already bought the ticket because it was only 10 pounds. It looks somewhat similar to the TWELFE NIGHT/RICHARD III set-up, as per this link:
NICE FISH is a collaboration between Rylance and the prose poet Lewis Jenkins. Think Rylance's first Tony acceptance speech. Would not fill the Booth, or any other Broadway house, for a single night.
Not everything is Broadway suitable, even when I am sure it will be brilliant (because I know and like Jenkins's work).
I agree it might not be a good fit for Broadway but it sure as heck could fill the Booth for more than one night. In Minneapolis, it mostly filled a theater with roughly the same capacity as the Booth for six weeks.
KnewIt... I am glad to hear that it was that successful! (I really am a Lewis Jenkins fan.) But so much of Broadway is tourist based - is it going to be "their" kind of thing? (Doesn't that make me sound like a snob!)
