Does anyone know what Adam Guettel is up to these days? I've just become obsessed with Piazza all over again and I wish he'd write more scores for Broadway.
^ Whoa, I didn't know or forgot that he was doing that. He is so perfect for handling that material! I wouldn't trust most composers with it but him I do.
Adam is no longer doing Princess Bride, I believe due to disagreements with librettist William Goldman.
Adam otherwise has FOUR shows in the works: Millions, based on the novel and Danny Boyle film; Days of Wine and Roses, also based on the movie; an opera of The Invisible Man, and something else called RIP. I've heard a gorgeous song from DoWaR, and a bunch of great music from Millions.
I LOVE the plot of Millions. I think it is so marvelously creative and interesting. If it ever comes to New York, I would be very interested in following its progress.
I've heard Guettel's new work in a couple of concerts over the last couple of years. Millions seems to be his main project and its been workshopped a couple of times from recollection. There's also an adaptation of "Days of Wine and Roses", and "The Invisible Man" in the works. Millions sounded like there will be some really great stuff in it, although the entire show sounds like it will be riding on two 11-year olds since typically-complex Guettel music. Look forward to seeing how it goes ahead. Floyd Collins is one my absolute favourite scores.
