Whenever I see opening night guest photos on BWW or Playbill.Com I've never seen Patti LuPone pictured. I almost always see Nathan, Bernadette, Sarah and Matthew, Lin Manuel, Linda Lavin etc. How come Patti is never to be found in these photos? I guess she's not into going to opening nights or she's busy often with concerts or other projects. I'm certain that she must get invites to these openings but never seems to attend.
Probably because Ms. LuPone lives in Kent, CT which even in light traffic is over a 2 hour drive from Manhattan. Would you really want to spend over 4 hours in traffic (round trip) to see a 2 hour musical?
Dollypop, you mean she would only go home after the Sun matinee and be home for the Mon off day at Gypsy and come back to the city for the Tues evening performance. Not the weekend, when Sat was a 2 show day. As to distance being an issue she's Patti LuPone, I'm sure she could check in to one of the city's luxury hotels after the opening show and party or be chaufered home in a luxury vehicle to Connecticut. Besides, many "ordinary" people schlep over 2 hours by car, train or bus to see a 2 hour musical.
Maybe she just doesn't want to go. Maybe she's not invited. Maybe she goes and isn't photographed. There's a bunch of possibilities.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Maybe someone drains the gas from her car so Terri Klausner can go in her place!

Not everyone relishes spending hard earned cash on a luxury hotel and a chauffeured limousine just to have their picture taken on a red carpet.
Yeah, I have no doubt her contract rider for her 54 Below shows included a hotel for the night, just like her apartment in the city for shows is paid for by the company, not out of her own pocket.

Yes, but a hotel room or apartment rent paid by 54 Below or the GYPSY producers would count as taxable income to Ms. LuPone under U.S. tax law, 450 F.2d 66 (better known as The Ethel Merman Rule).
