It was yesterday, trust me... I celebrated. I even baked a cake. And watched Sunday in the Park with George. I was actually wondering why there was no thread about it yesterday.
And I got to spend it with her! Well....me, and several thousand people, that is. She was in concert in New Orleans last night. I won't gush too much about how fabulous she is, we all know that, but when I turn 65, I want to sparkle and shine that much. She was charming, witty, and knocked every song she sang out of the park. I'm still trying to figure out which of the numbers she did was my favorite. :-p
And for those who are curious, here is a partial set list. There was no program given out (weird), so that's why I don't remember everything and the specific order. I think she sang around 15 songs:
Annie Get Your Gun overture Follies overture Gypsy overture
Let Me Entertain You There is Nothin’ Like a Dame In Buddy’s Eyes Losing My Mind You Could Drive a Person Crazy When You Wish Upon a Star/A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes Send in the Clowns Johanna Mister Snow No One is Alone Children will Listen Kramer’s Song Fever Being Alive With So Little to Be Sure Of (I think...I wasn't too familiar with the song; it was a medley with Children Will Listen)
Apparently this is her standard set list, based on a quick google search? Anyhow, several notable moments:
-"Fever" was hilarious. -this concert stop marked the second time she had decided to perform "Send in the Clowns" in public since she was in ALNM. And it would have been perfect, but some #@%^ knocked over their beer bottle right after she sang the bridge, during the orchestral break. The entire audience let out a gasp/sigh that was not too friendly toward said offender. -I loved her take on "Dame!" So fresh and funny. -"Johanna" was really good. However, they introduced it with the standard "Sweeney Todd" pipe organ chords, and when that happened, some idiot nearby loudly whispered, "OMG, it's Phantom!" -I was a little surprised that there was no "Gypsy" on the program besides the two listed pieces. -I was also surprised that the symphony was not taking advantage and selling CDs or anything. Just as well- I would have gone broke. :-p
All in all, it was a wonderful evening. And for what I paid ($35 for a balcony seat), I got more than my money's worth.
Her birthday is not today. It was yesterday, February 28, along with Vincente Minnelli and Kelly Bishop and Zero Mostel and Ben Hecht and Stephen Spender and Maxwell Anderson and Daniel Boorstin and Marcel Pagnol and Brent Barrett and Tommy Tune and Seth Rudetsky and and Bugsy Siegel and Jack Abramoff and Frank Gehry and Mercedes Ruehl and Gilbert Gottfried and Charles Durning and John Turturro and Robert Sean Leonard and Rae Dawn Chong and Gavin MacLeod...and me.
Sounds like a great show--what the eck is Kramer's Song? *edit* Oh it's on youtube--she wrote it for her dog... Cute.

PalJoey, you, or somebody, really should turn that list into a patter song. Happy belated bday to everyone on the list
The only reason there are so many birthdays on February 28 is because it is actually counting for two days. Anyone born on the 29 just says that they were born on the 28 so they don't have to wait four years to celebrate.
Wow. Saw her on Broadway for the first time many years ago in "Song and Dance". Years later my wife and I had front row orchestra seats for "Annie Get Your Gun" and at one point in the show she looked right at me and smiled. It was my favorite Broadway moment ever - lol.
Will always remember seeing her in Gypsy. Was sitting in the rear of the orchestra on the aisle and a short time into the show, out of the corner of my eye I caught someone standing in the aisle next to me. It was her getting ready to make her entrance from the back of the theater. She was kind of "bouncing" as she stood there getting revved up to do her thing. One of my memorable theater moments.

I have always said my birthday is February 29, and I've never met another Leap Year baby who denied it and said their birthday is February 28. It's just such an exclusive club, plus you can actually claim you are younger than you are. I turned 8 and 1/4 this year, and the year I was born our next door neighbor was celebrating her 21st birthday, despite having been born in 1896.
I was born at 11:53 PM on May 29th, and I've always wished that my mother had held on for 7 more minutes so then I could have the same birthday as my idol, Idina Menzel.
