Beautifully staged, acted, sung. I hope anyone close enough gets a chance to see a wonderful show done with such loving care. And to hear the Opening played by the Philharmonic was pure joy.

I was there tonight and couldn't agree more. Everything about it was top-notch and I just sat there in awe for most of the night. The chemistry between Kelli O'Hara and Jessie Mueller as Julie and Carrie was flawless and Nathan Gunn sounded every bit as perfect as I imagined. John Cullum, Shuler Hensley, Jason Danieley, Kate Burton, and Stephanie Blythe were all just perfectly cast and brought so many new colors to characters we all have come to know so well over the years.

I can't say it enough, if you are able, GO SEE CAROUSEL. It might be one of my favorite theatrical experiences ever. A 71-piece orchestra playing the most beautiful score Rodgers & Hammerstein ever wrote with a cast plucked straight out of your wildest dreams...there is absolutely no reason to miss this.

Is there a fairly cheap ticket price for this? I'm a huge Carousel fan, and I'd love to see it.

I second this, and perhaps the best danced ballet ever? Tiler Peck is stunning!

Dear God, I hope they turn this into a fully staged revival and have it playing on Broadway by the fall.

It easily could be, but O'Hara is spoken for with Bridges of Madison County and Far From Heaven (if either of those transfer) and The King and I next spring. She has a LOT of options.

And Blythe (and to a lesser extent, Gunn) are booked at opera houses nationally and internationally for the next three years.

To my knowledge, the cheapest seats available are the 95$ orchestra seats that were released today. But honestly, for what you get, that's a bargain. I would pay it over and over and over again if the show were running longer.

To me, it was just absolute theatre magic at it's best. I wish this could open on Broadway next season with exactly this cast, though logistically I know it's impossible.

Within a span of 9 days I saw the Ragtime concert and now this at Avery Fisher. Been quite the experience.

It was a truly beautiful evening. Kelli O'Hara has never sounded better. Her "What's the use of wondrin'" was astonishing. Stephanie Blythe could sing the iPhone instruction manual in Swahili and I would listen. "You'll never walk alone" was so powerful and beautifully sung. Nathan Gunn started out a bit shaky musically, especially in the bench scene, but he nailed Soliloquy and brought it together for the rest of the show.

And really, what a treat it was to hear such an incredible ensemble like the NY Phil play such glorious music.

Can't wait for this (sadly, not live but on my TV...)

How edited was the book? Their website lists Chad Beguelin--Script Adaptation (which seems odd, but only because I know him for Elf and Wedding Singer.) How staged is it? And are all the ballets done? (Oh, and how are they? I was hoping they'd do the Agnes deMille--so how was Warren Calyle's choreography?)

OK, those are all my questions :P

Agreed, it was a great night.

The Phil did offer $25 student rush. My friend was able to buy hers online; I missed the 2 hour cutoff for buying online, but was able to get two tickets at the box office at 7pm.

DJB, gotta say I felt the same exact way. I could feel myself holding my breath at times, and praying that it wasn't going to end. Such a perfect evening.

It's airing on PBS Live from Lincoln Center in, I believe, April. They rarely are allowed to repeat their programming (excepting one repeat the same week) or release them, so keep your eyes open.

Closer to show time NY Phil sometimes lowers the ticket prices for the remaining seats. Yesterday there were seats available in the orchestra for $45. Not sure if they will do the same for the remaining performances, but check just in case.

Sorry I'm not in NYC to see this, but thankfully PBS is providing a telecast. Carousel is my favorite R&H show.

I second the request to keep this thread updated with discount/rush info. I would have gone last night if I'd know the tickets were being offered reduced price. I definitely cannot swing $100 right now but this is my favorite musical and I would love to see the production live. Enjoying everyone's reviews!

For those asking about rush/discounts -- student rush tix were available for $25 (promo code RUSH), but you will be required to show a student ID at the box office. Day-of tickets were available for $45, both online and at the box office.

Amazing! I'll have to tell my friend about the $45 day of thing, what a great deal.

So now there is officially NO excuse to miss this, barring if you live in Alaska

What are the script adaptations? Just cuts, or rewrites? I always wondered about this one- it seems as the years go by the "Billy isn't abusive, just misunderstood" plot rings hollower and hollower.

No, I don't know what time they started offering the discount tickets. However, I do know that online ticketing closes 2 hrs before curtain.

Can someone who has seen it comment on the staging? I thought thsi was just to be a concert performance, and I pictured them standing at music stands with scripts. Apparently that is not the case. Is it a full production? Is there scenery? Costumes? Thanks for any info.
