THey must have started rehearsals, I can't believe this happened at such a late date. Do they have to give refunds if people want them? Or is that not a requirement?

Can't say I'm particularly surprised, I've never heard of him being spoken particularly favorably. Tom Sturridge was probably going to act circles round him anyway.
