Dear finebydesign:

In Novemeber you wrote (relative to "Cinderella":

"This show will be lucky to weather the winter."

Well, I see that it grossed over $1 million last week, and it still has two more weeks of previews left. It sold out the Broadway Theater for eight performances.

Now, maybe critics will trash the show, that remains to be seen, but it appears that the word of mouth you mocked in another of your posts (don't you love the search feature?) has been pretty good so far. True the show has its detractors (though less it seems since some major changes have been made), but the majority of the posted feedback I've seen recently has certainly been positive.

So here's my question: Care to revise your weather forecast?

Great grosses, especially in the winter, for MARY POPPINS as it begins its final two weeks of performances. Really sad to see this show go as well as having the New Amsterdam dark for an entire year.

Great week, especially since we just had President's Weekend.

"Really sad to see this show go as well as having the New Amsterdam dark for an entire year."

They have lots of remodeling to do for 'Aladdin'.

^ I know. But still, a year? This must be some production - which really makes me excited. I just hope it doesn't disappoint.

Mamma Mia! Bounced back after what has been a rough few weeks, Cinderella is turning out to be the surprise hit of the season.

Cinderella is my friend's favorite musical, after seeing it earlier in the month I figure she'd be extremely disapointed. She saw last Friday and loved it.

Would you guys consider "Newsies" to be losing steam since it hasn't broken $1 million in any of the recent holiday sales, and it seems as if its attendance has declined...

Me too. I really love the show and am rooting for it to have a long successful run like Mary Poppins did.

I'm not too worried about Newsies as I imagine its making its running costs easily, it probably helps that its in a theatre that not exactly desirable so I think its safe for at least another year.

I notice a trend that LION KING, WICKED, and BOOK OF MORMON are almost always the top 3 grossing shows. I wonder why that is? I know that they are big tourist hits but still, they usually tower over many of the other shows.

Newsies will be around at least another year. I can't see Disney having just one show playing on Broadway. And who knows if Aladdin will be ready by spring 2014.

Newsies is fine. It's nearly impossible to get a ticket, let alone a discount, on the weekends and didn't it already recoup? Great for Cinderella at 100%! Just wondering, in those numbers, do they count available seats for people like the swings and creative team that watch the show nightly for notes or are those taken out of the equation?

Keep in mind, too, that NEWSIES' max potential gross has been set in the $900,000 range for most of the winter, so it not grossing over a million is not a concern at all.

Not too surprised at all the seemingly big leaps in numbers for this past week, considering you had Valentine's Day (obviously a huge special date night), a holiday weekend, so a few extra tourists around, and the previous weekend taking a slight slam from Winter Storm Nemo. All in all nice to see a healthy week in the midst of February.

Two of those shows are good for children so families will attend. Most families buy more than 2 tickets. I think they will continue to rock. The last one is simply supposed to be the best right now. I am dying to see it but need the money to buy good seats since my eyes aren't so great anymore.
