I don't get how contracts allow actor's to do this. I mean what if Santino's contract goes beyond June. I have to assume he signed this contract before he got Cinderella, right?
henrik, totally agree. I guess I laugh at the situation as if I told my boss "Oh, sorry I have another job that night, where I can't do my current one, will you be ok with that?" Boss: "Sure". Sometimes it makes it look like they signed these contracts yesterday.
It happens all the time, I really don't see what the big deal is. And yes, my boss would allow me to take off time to do my job for somewhere else -- it looks good for her that her employees are in demand. (I wouldn't even lose my pay.)
He won't be collecting a paycheck from Cinderella that week (I'm assuming he'll need time for rehearsal, as well) -- unless he uses vacation time.
elmore, you are right. But, for me they just announced the cast of SHE LOVES ME. To me it's like saying, "Oh I got this show called Cinderella, but I'm sure they will let me take that night(s) off". As for Audra, I'm sure the producers, etc knew of the dates ahead of time to do her concerts, so that is different when she signed the contract. It just looked odd to me to announce a performer who is doing a big Broadway show to lead another show on the same night he is supposed to be doing a big Broadway show. Does this make sense?
Sorry for all the bad grammar...typing from my phone.
If it came to be AFTER he signed his Cinder contract, he would have needed their permission to accept the gig. Why don't the producers care? Because not too many people are going to make a clamor about him being out. To the average theater-goer, his name means nothing.
Again: this happens all the time, it's nothing new or unusual.
