Would love to see the Potter reunion with Emma...I just hope it doesn't end up as an Alice in Wonderland or Oz the Great and Powerful type of over-CGI-ed movie.
I don't see how it can't be that way. If it's a straight live action adaptation from the cartoon, they're going to have to use CGI for the animals and the magic.
It wouldn't be the same without Gus Gus and the other mice.
There is a difference, though, between a movie with some CGI and that mess of a film that is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (and what Oz the Great and Powerful looks to be).
"85 points to Gryffindor because not only will Watson make a great fairy-tale princess, but Sir Kenneth Branagh, a.k.a Professor Lockhart, will direct. Is it too much to hope that the two might also appear together onscreen?"
I'm excited for this! I wonder what new layer this version will add to the tale. What more really can you add to the Cinderella story that hasn't already been done by Ever After, Disney, R&H, Ella Enchanted, Slipper and the Rose, The Glass Slipper, First Love, etc?
There was also the episode of 'Faerie Tale Thetare'.
Articles say that we should hear some more casting for this in the upcoming weeks.

Mark Romenak was originally signed on to direct it, but his version was too dark for Disney. I guess they did not want to go down the road they went when they made 'Return to Oz'.
Do we need two threads on two boards? Especially since this isn't about the Broadway show?
Anyway, I'm excited for the news. Even though there are countless versions, I love them all. I really, really wanted to write my own live action version one day. Oh well. I guess I still could, but getting around all the copyrights would be a hassle.
My favorite version, though, is AN UGLY STEPSISTER, by Gregory Maguire.

This thread does discuss the director, who has done a LARGE amount of stage work. The actress playing the Stepmother has plenty of theatre credits as well.
