I'm watching the movie Little Murders with Marcia Rodd as the leading lady. She has that same nervous, unfocused energy of Liza Minnelli.

She was offered the role of Maude's daughter Carol (she did the pilot) but turned it down and so it went to Adrienne Barbeau.

According to imdb, she was replaced as Mabel in "Mack & Mabel" before it came to Broadway.

She was nommed for a Best Actress Tony for "Shelter" in 1973.

Why isn't she more of a name? Did she decide to only do work she wanted to do rather than work that would make her a known name?

Yes, Marcia Rodd was the first choice for Mable but was scuttled for a girl named Kelly Garret who had been making a big splash on television. Garret for the axe in favor of Bernadette Peters. This all led to wags calling the show MACK AND MAYBE.

Unless I'm really not remembering correctly, I BELIEVE it was Ms Rodd whom I saw in LA doing the lead in the "tour" of the very funny "YOUR OWN THING" musical back in the late 1960's. Leland Palmer did it in NY, but I think Ms. Rodd took over (or "overtook") the role. She was very very funny.
