Tina Fey was just interviewed on E!'s SAG AWARDS Red Carpet, and Fey mentioned that she is "close" to having a deal with Paramount for a MEAN GIRLS musical. From her enthusiasm, it seemed that these talks were recent.
MEAN GIRLS - THE MUSICAL has sooo much potential. And not to be a 'Negative Nancy,' but so did SAVED. If Fey is on the creative team, however, MEAN GIRLS as a musical should not disappoint.
Why wouldn't that happen? Originating a role in a new musical? Write her a scene-stealing musical number and she could get a Tony nod. Plus, the chance to work with Fey should be a bonus for anyone asked to be a part of the show.
This can actually be really good. Not only is Fey a smart writer, she has enough clout to write the show she wants and minimize the (presumably) inevitable "make it more like the movie" business.
Alot of those people will probably be too old by the time this gets off the ground. I also don't see Damiano as Gretchen. That may have to do with how much I like Lacey Chabert though.
Anna Kendrick as Katy. Lea Michele as Regina. Kristin Chenoweth as Regina’s Mom Jennifer Damiano as Gretchen Patti Murin as Karen Krysta Rodriguez as Janis Lauran Benanti as Ms. Norberry Me as Damien.
Not that I agree with or defend any of this casting, but if Bernadette effin Peters can do Follies (which she is 15 years too old for) and Streisand can play Madame Rose, then a 29 year year old can play 17. lol
The Morgan James as Regina thing started out as a joke, but I figured if she can bop around onstage for 2 1/2 in Godspell acting like a 12 year old, she can certainly pull off look 17. Plus, she's short enough, and she kind of has a mean girl face when she's not smiling.
