Any news about the Broadway production of CHIX 6? I enjoyed it at Queens Theater In the Park several years ago and haven't heard anything about it since...
I haven't heard anything, either. I briefly got to talk to the creators at NYCC in 2011 when they performed on Kids Day and they said they had some producers interested in the transfer. I guess it fell through. I have a strong feeling they're not going to give up on Broadway even if it does take a few more years to get there. The concept is great and the score is very strong.
It was nearly 3 hours long when I saw it and needed major cuts; didn't get out until almost 11pm. Perhaps it could work at a venue like New World Stages if they do some judicious trimming.
I worked with the Director of Chix 6 on a show this past summer and he said they are still aiming for a broadway run but are still trying to line up more investors.
It is long for this kind of story. I like each of the heroes getting their own intro song, but they could all be trimmed down a bit. That's probably the easiest way to tackle this. Trim down each of the songs that don't immediately progress the story and go from there. It doesn't need a total overhaul, just editing.
