I was wondering how I could get a job working at one of the Theaters in Manhattan as a Ticket-Taker or Usher. Any of you out there do that? I just moved to NYC and I love everything Broadway so I thought this could be a good part time job.
They're union jobs and for the most part those who have 'em won't give 'em up. Best way to start might be to volunteer usher or look at off-Broadway venues.
IN the early 1980s while in college at NYU, I used to usher at The Public Theater. At the time they paid $10 per performance -- most of the ushers were full-time students so there were no taxes taken out of our checks. The full-time house staff were major league a**holes but if you can put up with that it was not a bad job.
