...and able. Everyone, OK? Let's test ourselves.
Don't CLICK, OPEN, read....

(added from other self deleted thread): it's easy. no replies, pls.
Why are you guys feeding the troll on the "ScHOOL SHOOTING" thread??????
I'm outta here - stuff to do.
I feel like a mommie - make me proud, fellow posters - dont' feed the trolls!!

Keep reading THIS to yourself

An internet troll is a person who uses anonymity to cause frustration, anger, impatience or to generally be disruptive for no seemingly good reason EXCEPT to be that nuisance.

Most are souless bastards, touched by daddy/priest, and instead of coping with that trauma in a healthy way, take out their aggression, anger, impotence, frustration on others.

-have problems forming real-life relationships; have a hard time attracting members of the opposite/same sex, generally introverts. Though some are 'trolls-in-hiding', most are skill-less loners.

General troll behavior:disruptive forum posts; the posts are generally off-topic, or unnecessarily combative. Each contemporary popular website has its own sub-genre of troll

-can be male or female, mostly males, including the popular 'gender bender'44 yo man that acts like 14 yo girl

Female internet trolls, are far more scary then their male counterparts. Female trolls seem to better able to delude themselves into believing that their behavior is not only accepted online but that the traits that they find so well received (they are not) will transfer well to real life. usually ends badly.

I can never keep track of who all the trolls are. Except for Mikey and JC I never know. Who wants to start a list?

On the main board, it seems too subjective.

I just feel like if we're really gonna do it, the majority of people have to agree that the moratorium will exist in in perpetuity and not just a week or a month or whatever. Putting a limit on it just seems to allow people to get through it and store up their ire to retaliate after the deadline ends.

I take part of the blame as well, but threads that start out on the OT board especially get derailed. It gets to a point where every post (including some of mine, admittedly) is in response to a troll's words.

Not responding to a thread initiated by a troll should be fairly easy. However, not allowing a troll to threadjack an interesting discussion is more challenging, but doable.

If a member's only purpose on the boards is to provoke anger and hostility, why give them exactly what they want, especially when you want to get rid of them?

Just ignore them brian. Sort of "talk around them" if you will.

They get the hint.

I'm up for it.

Exactly, And NEVER use their "name", or discuss their "prior" threads, posts.

Yea, why should we stop our discussion just because they bomb a thread. It's like they've won.

If you ignore them they will leave. It gets really boring when you're talking and absolutely no one acknowledges you.

Or maybe we'd really luck out and get a full on melt down.

Either way, we should continue to chat. It's why we come here.

Shall we start with the two 14-year-old girls in the Once thread on the main board?

I've been in for awhile. Ignore the threads they start, and they'll drop off the page. If they keep bumping it, report them as spamming the board. When trolls attempt to threadjack, heed Phyll's words.

" just ignore them completely and go on with your discussion."

Shun them. Ignore them. Make them invisible. We have absolute power - if everyone does it. No more excuses.

And when eh do post, just post in other threads so that theirs drops off the page faster...

How many of these calls for moratoriums have there been here? Countless.
How many of them have been adhered to faithfully? None.
They say that where there's a will there's a way.
Well, there doesn't seem to be enough will here, especially among those who squawk the loudest.

Instead of making grand pronouncements about what you're going to do, just do it, without trumpets or fanfare. That way, if and when you break your vow--- most probably when --- at least you won't have egg on your face.

There was a week long moratorium in November or December that was a success. The odd poster who didn't know about it may have engaged the troll until someone pointed out that we were ignoring them.

mikey and JC's threads dropped like stones. Except the one that mikey kept talking to himself in, which was priceless.
