Hocus Pocus as a musical?

I have gone so far as writing an outline for a book with song ideas and possible placements. This baby would run a million years.

I think a more pop oriented songwriter would be a great choice, giving the songs a very performative quality, even the ones going to Max and the other leading non-witch characters. Dare I mention Marc Shaiman's name? You get a live cat to play Binks and have him do some of neat theme park animal stunt stuff (walking on platforms, hitting little levers, etc.) and have a couple really awesome animatronic ones pop out to do some talking. Then just get three of the badddest and funniest betches in the NYC theater scene as the witches to pull in some rave reviews.

It will run a million years. Or atleast 5.

Seriously, if this show ever happens, I would love for it to be campier than even the movie, like Evil Dead: The Musical or The Toxic Avenger campy.

After the exposition of the sisters being hung, Max could have a cheesy "I'm new in town!" number, like TMM's "Not For the Life of Me", except with the emphasis that he moved to a much smaller town and somewhat hates it. They could play up the fact that he's a virgin, which is important to how the sisters get back.

And the bullies who stole Max's shoes could later be the sisters' hypnotized minions, like Renfield was to Dracula. They'd be bumbling around trying to find "Hollywood".
