Hello. I've seen Max in "Xanadu" and "Evita." In this interview, he discusses a major mistake he had in one of the Evita shows. Talented man. RC in Austin, Texas
P.S. Please feel free to share your experiences in seeing Max perform in one of his shows or stage door experiences. Max Von Essen
When we saw "Dance of the Vampires," my parents and I (I was 13 at the time, and looked even younger) waited in the cold at the stage door to meet Michael Crawford. After a good 45 minutes, Max came (back) out and told us that Michael would not be coming out that afternoon, and then proceeded to talk to us for a good 20 minutes. Super nice guy!
I've read that Max was a cast member in a national tour of "Chicago"...around 1999. Does anyone know what role he played in the show? Just wondering....RC in Austin, Texas
I checked his official website. The answer was always there. I didn't know that Max played the role of Mary Sunshine in a tour of "Chicago." I wasn't aware that he could sing as a male soprano? from RC in Austin, Texas
I loved him as Che tonight-much more subtle than Ricky. He took the intro to "Money Kept Rolling" up an octave. "Excuse my intrusion but fine as these sentiments sound" etc, etc. It was a cool choice and it put a personal stamp on the character. You could hear shades of male soprano.
Along with his autographed Magaldi pic, Max was kind enough to sign this 5 x 7 picture, taken at the Dallas Music Hall stage door (April 2010). from RC in Austin, Texas
Consider me another "Max"inista. I first noticed him in the Paper Mill's THE BAKER'S WIFE some years ago and thought he was marvelously talented, as well as personally appealing. I've seen him at various Town Hall shows and made sure to wait to see EVITA until I knew he'd be filling in for Ricky Martin. Glad I did. What a great Che. I enjoyed my friendly chat with him at the Broadway Flea Market last September. Any day now he should break into that echelon of big Broadway stars.
Max posted a nude photo on his Twitter for those SIPs. He got a lot of heat for it, since a lot of school kids like those so Im not sure if he took it down.
I think he's incredibly talented having loved him in many projects but like many younger actors has a big case of the "look at me"s.
I've seen Max as Joseph, Jesus and Enjolras, but I guess I won't see him as Che unless he plays it elsewhere. I thought his Jesus wasn't particularly charismatic, but I have kind of a soft spot for Max in the bigger picture. :)
