Hello everyone! New to the site. Hope everyone is well. I have a couple of quick questions. I saw Avenue Q while it was on broadway and am thinking of taking someone who has never seen the show before to it at the NWS. Here are my questions.
1) When the show went from Broadway to Off Broadway, were there any MAJOR changes? For example, songs or characters completely cut?
2) The box office opens at either at 10:00am or 1:00pm depending on the day of the week. How early prior to opening should I arrive in order to get a Rush ticket?
Thanks so much everyone and hope everyone is having a great weekend!
I would get there not long after the box office opens. The seats tend to go fast and they are only the left half of the first row. I think they are 27 bucks.
2 ticket special events are coming up that "Q" will be participating in. One is 20@20 ($20.00 twenty minutes before curtain) that will happen from January 22nd thru February 10th. I suggest you get there between 6 or 7 for that to get a good spot in line.
Also therd is a 2 for 1 deal happening from January 28 thru Feb 10th.
Zamedy, when I saw it over the summer, it was "Fox News" in place of "George Bush."
Also, did rush when I went over the summer. Went to a Sunday evening show and got to the box office at about 11:15, which was past the opening (which was at 10, I think). Just walked in and didn't have a problem. Have heard other people say that it was more crowded (and that tickets go fast), so maybe I just got lucky that it was a slow day.
I saw it last month and 'Twinkies' replaced the George Bush line.

New Question...On the official Avenue Q website, under FAQ, it has information about the rush tickets. It does not say anything about whether you can get 1 or 2 tickets per ID. However, on playbill.com website, under the rush policies, it says you can get two per ID for Avenue Q. Does anyone know for sure if you can get two tickets per ID? This would save one of us from freezing outside haha!
I'm not exactly sure how the rush is since its a big line for multiple shows, however my friends & I were about 6th, 7th, & 8th on line and got tickets for the Sunday matinee without a problem. We got there at about 9 or 9:15. That is fine.
I think "Schadenfreude" was shortened before the move. I do remember that it was using the shortened version when I saw the Equity tour towards the end of its run. I assume it was using the shortened version for the entire tour, though it may not have been incorporated into the NY production until it moved.

Several years ago the song "Purpose" was retooled to give it a less blatant Huey Lewis and the News "Stuck With You" feel for the majority of the song, kicking back into that style near the end.
They did rewrite some of the Gary Coleman stuff after he died. However, most of it is minor.
I do know that the changes to some of the songs (the shortened version of schadenfreude and Purpose) were done for the Vegas company, then those changes were done on Broadway to have both companies be identical and now that the show is off Broadway, those changes moved with the show.

I believe Coleman's line about "my biggest fear is that I've already achieved my damn purpose and now im on journey to the grave" was lightened up and the death reference removed.
