So, on the 31st March I will be in New York, and am planning to enter (and lose) the Book Of Mormon Lottery, but after I lose I was hoping to head down to the TKTS Booth and get discount tickets to Avenue Q, so my question would be, will there still be discount Tickets available for it at about 5pm? (I realise there is alot of variation but just a general idea would be nice)
Better than waiting in the TKTS line, find a Broadway Genius street team person. There are guys usually right next to the TKTS booth on the Broadway side. They wear lanyards that are yellow, and carry iPads. They sell Q tix for $55 (cheaper than TKTS) and usually pretty great seats. Disclaimer: I used to be one of them. Anyways, best of luck with Mormon, but you're def in for a treat either way.
Let's say you would be at TKTS booth by 5:15, the line should be very very short if there are any. You might be able to go straight to one of the windows.
But what time Avenue Q rush tickets available? You might be able to get these for much cheaper price.
The lines are short close to curtain and sometimes they release amazing seats very late in the day. I got fourth row center aisle for Annie and eighth row center for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, both five minutes before curtain.
I've always found that if you go early and get a single ticket they give you the worst seat they can find (usually in the rear orchestra or rear mezzanine on the side aisle).
If you go 10-15 minutes before curtain and ask for a single you can often get an excellent seat!
AVE Q has been in NY for almost 10 years. The show depends on out-of-town visitors, like you, to buy tickets. As such, you won't have a problem getting tickets on the day-of.
