Did Metcalf make the right choice taking The Other Place over The Anarchist? Wow she escaped a disaster

Based on what we know, it is obvious that Metcalf made the right decision!

Ever since Anarchist opened and Winger got such tepid reviews I've wondered if the show would have been better received (and run longer) if Metcalf stayed in the production opposite Patti. Certainly would not have been the first time performances elevated material.

No doubt the show failed on the merits of its writing. My question is more: would The Anarchist ran longer with Metcalf over Winger, considering Winger got pretty negative reviews.

I HIGHLY doubt it would have run longer if Metcalf had been cast. It would have made no difference.

Had Metcalf stayed with it, and had someone like George Wolfe or Joe Mantello directed it, the reviews probably would have been much better. It reqired good direction and performances to cover up the dismal play.

I don't think it would gave lasted much longer even though I adore Metcalf.
