What shows would you love to see turned into movies?

Pretty much what the title says... What show, musical or straight play, Broadway or Off-Broadway would you like to see either turned into a movie? Even if it has already been adapted into a movie, and you would want it redone? Just curious:)

Other Desert Cities and Venus in Fur would work particularly well on screen if done correctly.

I believe OTHER DESERT CITIES is already in development.

I think JAMES JOYCE'S THE DEAD would work beautifully on film.

I know this will never happen but I wish PROMiSes, PROMiSes would be considered as a TV movie.
I don't care who's wrong or right. I don't really want to fight no more. It's time for letting go.

Next to Normal and a proper remake of A Chorus Line.

I think The Book of Mormon would be a great movie. Even if they just kept the plot without the music it has a very movie like quality about it.

It would be interesting to see Wicked as a movie. Memphis would be a pretty fun movie to watch as well.

I'd like to see the original cast of RENT have another go at a movie version, this time with Tarantino as director.

JERSEY BOYS
Some people can get a thrill, knitting sweaters and sitting still. That's okay for some people, who don't know they're alive!

Plans for a Jersey Boys movie were in the works, but it was halted sadly. I really do hope it picks back up though!

I really wish they'd do Avenue Q on videotape, styled like an episode of Sesame Street, which seems like such an obvious thing to do that it surprises me they haven't done it already. It's one of the only modern musicals I know of that has proliferated among my non-musical friends, so it seems like it would have a wide audience. On a more frivolous, wishful level, a film of Merrily We Roll Along in the fashion of classic 60s Cinemascope musical extravaganzas would be really fun (for me).

Take Me Out

I believe the rights were optioned but it just never happened. Now that Denis O'Hare has found some notoriety with true blood and in films I wish it could be filmed.

I agree with both of your choices as well, Charley Kringas
Nancy Reagan, meanest and thinnest of the first ladies moves into the white house. Yabba dabba! It's the eighties.

Nine, this time done right.

Chicago
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Boy From Oz. Hugh is still young enough and Anne Hathaway would make the perfect Liza.

I want a movie musical of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with:

Hugh Jackman as Lawrence
Justin Timberlake as Freddie
Anne Hathaway as Christine

Due to popularity, I have a feeling WICKED and or/ BOOK OF MORMON may be next whether we want them or not LOL

Wicked. But with Russell Crowe as Galinda.

Wicked could be a terrific movie if they managed to pull it off and cast the right people. Same with Book of Mormon.
Mame (with someone who can sing and age appropriate)
Promises, Promises
Anything Goes would be nice and fun especially with a great cast.
I'd actually like to see an actually good version of Gypsy on film. For such a great show, both film versions have somehow turned out lousy. Not saying I want Barbra Streisand considering she's FAR from ideal, but I'd still like a new film even if it has to be with her.

Could you imagine if Spielberg did RAGTIME? Nicole Kidman as Mother, Jamie Foxx as Coalhouse, Hugh Jackman (or Jeremy Renner) as Tateth, Kerry Washington as Sarah...could be perfect.

Also, a film of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels could be fun! What about Light In The Piazza? Is Meryl too old to play Margaret with Anna Kendrick as Clara?

Ragtime could be AMAZING!
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Couldn't agree more about Ragtime! It would be incredible. I hope the possible Miss Saigon turns into reality. I've got to add Billy Elliot (the musical) to the list.
Also, Mame with someone who can sing those songs.
