Hasn't the show been doing pretty good business lately? I don't remember reading if this ever recouped. I'm sure it did though.
Theatre is not just some petty extracurricular activity I do in my spare time. It is my life, it is my passion, it is who I am. Nothing and no one can change that or take it away from me. All the world is MY stage.
^ It doesn't matter how well a show is doing. It's not doing crazy business like Lion King is and if they have something lined up, Disney will pull the plug on one show to let another show open. Mary Poppins also has had a lot of low weeks this past year. It's not a cheap show to run.
It's also insanely boring. Y'know, so there's that.

And they are closing Poppins so that they CAN bring Aladdin into the space.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

"Kind of funny that a Disney show is closing with another Disney show moving in..."
They made that mistake 6 years ago around this month. It was very sad to see a wonderful show like 'Beauty and the Beast' and to see it be replaced by a mess of a show like 'The Little Mermaid'. They only redeemable things about it were Sierra Boggess and Sherie Rene Scott. But Disney did not own the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Anyway, I'll miss 'Mary Poppins' but I am looking forward to 'Aladdin'.
I feel bad for Gavin Lee. He has been with the show since it opened in London, opened the show on Broadway, did the tour and then came back to broadway. He just took off for a few month to do Top Hat in London for a few months and was to return to Mary Poppins over the summer. I honestly wonder if Disney will try to bring him back for the final show.
I'd love an Aida revival in five years that focuses a little less on spectacle. Would Disney ever NOT produce a revival of one of their shows, or at least co-produce?
